The Western Regional branch of the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) on Thursday threatened an industrial action to get the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to pay them the 15 per cent retention premium.
The Commission, according to the union, had failed to honour the negotiation agreement on the payment of the 11 remaining categories namely: Administrative, Supply and Management, Secretarial, Security, Public Relations, Technical, Estate and Reception, printing, porters and cleaners.
Mr. Kwesi Banson, Regional Chairman of TEWU said the delay in the payment of the remaining 11 category had created several problems among families and had generated lots of debate within the union.
The members of the union were of the view that too much discrepancies in the salary structure of teachers and TEWU could rather affect teaching and learning as well as hamper the vision of quality education delivery in the country.
The regional TEWU, by resolution, would continue the hoisting of flags at their various schools and institutions, followed by a sit-down strike and ultimately an industrial action if no good response were heard from authorities’ concerned. GNA
