Vodafone Ghana launches 3rd edition of ‘World of Difference’ project

Vodafone Ghana one of Ghana’s giant telecommunication companies on Wednesday launched the third edition of the Vodafone Foundation ‘World of Difference’ project.

The ‘World of Difference’ initiative is aimed at giving professionals and individuals an opportunity to offer their experiences and skills to positively transform communities through selected charities or projects of choice.

Speaking at the launch in Accra, Mr Patrick Boateng, Director of External Affairs, Vodafone Ghana said, “We are glad to be providing opportunity for several people to make a difference in society by solving social problems that they are passionate about”.

He said steps taking by Vodafone to enrich the lives of the less privileged in society needed to be emulated stressing that business owners should not only be interested in making profit.

Mr Boateng said the project had contributed immensely to the lives of many Ghanaians in areas such as health, education, environmental cleanliness, entrepreneurial grooming and youth empowerment.

Ms Afua Sarkodie, Manager of Vodafone Foundation, said this year’s edition would give 50 participants the opportunity to enrich the lives of others through their skills and talents.

She said the judges for the 2012 edition would include Ms Shamima Muslim, News Anchor, Citi FM, Mrs Dzifa Bampo, Broadcast Journalist Joy FM, Dr Audrey Gadzekpo, Lecturer University of Ghana, Mr Kojo Yankah, President of African University of Communication and Mrs Shirley Frimpong Manso, Movie Director of Sparrow Productions.

“There were 30 participants in the first edition, 45 in the second and we are hoping to have 50 participants this year”, she added.

Ms Sarkodie called on professionals and individuals, who have passion on issues of health, education among others to apply.

Submissions of projects is opened until August 20, 2012.

Mrs Vannesa Adu-Akorsah, Principal of New Horizon Special School, said through the project, the school had built an E-learning center and hired a Physiotherapist.

She called on corporate bodies to extend assistance to the needy in society. GNA
