Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation donates bus to school

The Board of Trustees of Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF) has presented a 58-seater bus valued at GHC 78,000 to Gyamfi Kumanin Senior High and Technical School at Wamahinso in Asutifi District.
NADeF is a fund set up by the Management of the Ahafo Mine of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited at Kenyasi Number Two to undertake development projects in the operational areas.
Mr Kwame Saarah-Mensah, Chairman of the Board who made the presentation at a short ceremony at Wamahinso, said the foundation was prepared to support brilliant but needy students to pursue higher education.
He advised the students to focus on their studies, especially during their leisure hours, as that was the only way they could pass their examinations.
Mr. Saarah-Mensah said the only way the students could directly benefit from the fund was to concentrate on their books.
Receiving the keys to the bus, Mr. Appua Karikari, Headmaster of the school, thanked NADeF and the company for the donation, saying the bus would facilitate the movement of teachers and students.
He appealed to the foundation to consider constructing a boys’ dormitory and teachers’ quarters for the school.
Mr. Eric Addae, the District Chief Executive, said the Assembly would soon award contract for the construction of a storey building in the school.
He said the assembly had completed a six-unit classroom block for the school and assured authorities that more classroom blocks would be constructed to increase admission.
Mr. Opoku advised the Management of the school to take proper care of the bus by ensuring its regular maintenance.
Mr. Dominic Ekow Abban, acting Kumasi Branch Manager of PHC Motors, on behalf of the company, presented a 32-inch flat screen LCD television to the school. GNA
