Stephen Sae alias Akwasi Atta from Abrebeano near Komenda in the Central Region who stabbed Kofi Abekah at Effasu near Half Assini to death and bolted to Cote d’ Ivoire, has been arrested by the Half Assini Police .
The Jomoro District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) John Ferguson Dzineku disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Half Assini on Thursday.
DSP Dzineku said Atta was arrested by some Ghanaian fishermen at Mamaa near Big Assinie in Cote D’ Ivoire who had heard of the callous crime he had committed, and handed him over to the Half Assini Police.
The Police Commander related that both Atta and Abekah used to fish at Effasu near Half Assini in the Jomoro district of the Western Region.
He said the suspect, Atta, who was not married, gave his catch of fish to Abekah’s wife to sell for him, an arrangement known to Abeka.
The Police Commander said somewhere along the line, Abekah suspected that Atta was having an affair with his wife, whose name is not immediately known, and warned them to stop the affair.
DSP Dzineku said despite the warning the two did not stop their relationship, and that on January 21 this year, the decease confronted the suspect who was mending his net at the beach, over the issue.
He said Atta and Abekah engaged in a fight during which Atta used the knife he was using to mend the net to stab the deceased on the chest several times and bolted to Mamaa near Big Assinie in Cote d’ Ivoire.
The Police Commander said Abekah died on his way to the Half Assini government hospital.
The suspect would be arraigned in court soon, the DSP added. GNA
