Christians in the Tamale Metropolis yesterday ushered in the New Year with worship, praise and thanksgiving to God for seeing them through 2011 in the various churches.
There were midnight church services and at exactly 0024 hours the congregations went wild with some lightening candles while others “played fireworks and crackers” to add colour to the celebration.
Others also prayed fervently asking God to help them keep faith with their New Year resolutions.
At the Winners Chapel International, the congregation held their service through satellite linked to the headquarters of the church in Nigeria.
Bishop David Oyedepo, Presiding Bishop of the church, delivering the sermon on the theme: “Maximizing the benefits of the prophetic era”, predicted that 2012 would witness strange inventions, divine economy, peace and prosperity for Christians.
He said Christians were living in the most exciting era of the church were all prophecies of God would be fulfilled before the last days.
Bishop Oyedepo said 2012 would witness great outpouring of the spirit of the Lord upon the church and there shall be sudden and strange visitations in the lives of Christians and God would empower his people economically.
Meanwhile other people in the Metropolis ushered the New Year at drinking bars where they made merry. GNA
