Driver fined for attempting to fight police officer

Isaac Arthur, a 38-year-old driver, has been fined GHC240 for attempting to fight a police officer.

He was fined on his own plea, and in default, would go to jail for two months in hard labour.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court that on December 15 personnel the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit in Tarkwa signalled Arthur to stop but he sped off.

Inspector Tawiah said Arthur was later spotted in the same vicinity and when the policeman asked him why he failed to stop, he said he did see any stop sign.

She said the convict hit the policeman on the hand and struggled with him but he was overpowered and taken to the police station. GNA
