An appeal has been made to government to ensure that all interest groups in the music industry benefitted from the proposed GH¢2 million Fund announced in the 2012 budget.
Mr John Mensah Sarpong, President of National Society of Ghanaian Music Producers (NASGAMP), said there was the need for greater consultation and inclusiveness on how the money should be utilized.
This was the way to achieve the government’s aim of helping the industry to function properly and contribute to job creation.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi, Mr Sarpong, underlined the need for all stakeholders and interest groups in the industry to come together to brainstorm and decide on the efficient use of the fund.
He expressed worry about what he alleged were attempts by some groups to take decisions on the proposed fund without the involvement of other stakeholders adding that this could be a recipe for confusion and cause further divisions in the industry.
Mr Sarpong praised the government for the recognition given to the music industry and invited all stakeholders to support the government’s initiative. GNA
