CPP National Youth Organiser calls for calm in the party

Mr Mutala Mohammed, Convention People’s Party’ s (CPP) National Youth Organiser on Friday, urged the youth to uphold their trust in the Central Committee of the party as the final authority to decide on the date for elections for a Presidential candidate.

He said a decision would certainly be made at the imminent meeting of the Central Committee of the party which is scheduled for next week.

Mr Mohammed gave the assurance in an interview with the media in Accra, prior to a meeting he had summoned to ascertain reports on progress made so far by the Regional Youth Organisers.

The meeting would also discuss the formation of the Party’s National Youth League and its composition, make budget proposals and design a working document for the operation of Regional Youth Organisers to help increase membership at the various levels.

He said an early congress is critical for the CPP’s Presidential candidate to be able to compete favorably with his opponents, as far as grassroots and constituency level mobilisation and campaigns are concerned.

Mr Mohammed said it is important that the National Leadership adhere to the provisions of the party’s constitution which specified the election of a Presidential candidate 12 months to the election date.

Mr Mohammed Akumbey, Upper East Regional Youth Organiser noted that members of the CPP need a Presidential candidate to articulate the vision of the party to the people at both the grassroots and constituency levels in order to capture their votes.

He said the candidate must therefore be part of the organisational and mobilisation programmes as there is much work to be done.

According to Alhaji Kwame Muntala, Northern Regional Youth Organiser, members are disappointed at the long silence from the National Leadership on the election of a Presidential candidate for the party, especially after a very stirring election exercises to elect both National and Constituency executives of the party.

He warned that the youth would resist any attempt to set aside the party’s constitution for any reason in the election of a flagbearer, and called for a strict adherence to the lay down procedures and processes of filing for the contest and the timing, to avert further confusion and agitation by members of the party.
