Mr. Ofori Addo, Brong-Ahafo Regional HIV/AIDS trainer and Health Educator at the Regional Health Directorate in Sunyani, has appealed to people to have regular check ups.
Mr. Addo was addressing a meeting of staff of decentralized departments and Jaman South District Assembly at Drobo at which 107 people were screened.
The exercise code-named ‘Health Screening fair’, was jointly organised by the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), German International Department (GIZ), and Regional Health Directorate.
The programme will cover all 22 districts of the region and the diseases targeted are Body Mass Index (BMI), HIV, diabetes and hypertension.
At a forum some participants did not see the need for the screening exercise saying testing HIV positive could make them become stressful and that alone could shorten their lives.
Others (male) shared the view that once their wives had been screened and found negative or otherwise there was no need for them to offer themselves for the exercise.
Many held the perception that since they were registered with the National Health Insurance (NHI) Scheme, they could access screening at any of the accredited or designated health facilities at their own free will. GNA
