Nana Konadu to go independent?

Pressure has started mounting on defeated NDC flagbearer contender, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, to run as an independent candidate in next year’s presidential polls.

A group of branch executives of the party from the Central Region proposed the idea at their meeting on Monday July 11.

The executives, who are also members of the regional branch of the Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings (FONKAR) group which supported her bid for the NDC flagbearership, claim they have enough members to execute a national campaign.

The former first lady contested president Mills for the NDC’s leadership but received just 90 votes, representing 3.1% of votes cast.

David Forthgil Bentil, Central regional coordinator of FONKAR, told Citi News they are yet to present their proposal to the former first lady.

“We in the Central Region have more than 10,000 card bearing members for FONKAR so if the delegates are only 3,000 and they have decided for President Mills, they are saying ‘no’, they would decide what to do with their votes so if madam (Mrs Rawlings) would go as an independent candidate, they would support that.

“I told them we have not heard anything from madam yet so we should hold on till after the press conference then we would send a proposal to her. Whatever she would say, we would support that”.
The campaign team of the former first lady is set to hold a press conference tomorrow, Wednesday July 13, to outline what they describe as anomalies in the just ended congress.
Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings claimed her entry into the contest was in response to calls from the grassroots of the party to redeem the NDC and redirect it onto the right path following what she describes as the deviation from the core ideals and values under-pinning the formation of the NDC by the Mills-Mahama government.

  1. I was not aware of any organization called FONKAR (Friends Of Nana Kunadu Agyeman Rawlings) is functioning in Ghana. That would be a disgrace to the Ghanaian society. Who is this woman ? All the members should be arrested immediately

  2. Who really wants to see this MONKEY look alike being elected president in Ghana? Who’s gonna vote for her?
