Mills: I don’t take credit for NPP projects

President John Evans Atta Mills has denied allegations by some elements within the opposition NPP that he failed to acknowledge the contribution of the previous administration towards some developmental projects when he commissioned such projects during his nationwide tour.

According to some leading members of the NPP, the President deliberately failed to acknowledge the Kufuor-led administration for projects its started and completed.

Others have even suggested that the President was only re-commissioning projects. But His Excellency disagrees with his critics.

After ending a three day tour of Ashanti Region where he commissioned projects and cut the sod for new ones to begin, President Mills told Citi FM’s Presidential Correspondent Richard Mensah, that most of the projects he commissioned were initiated by his administration.

He said the previous administration has been duly recognised for projects they started but his Government also needs commendation for completing these projects.

He noted that his priority is to conclude projects started by his administration and not a focus on completion of other people’s projects.

Professor Mills debunked claims that ongoing projects in the Ashanti Region were abandoned because it is considered a stronghold of the NPP.

“You saw the reaction of the people and the chiefs and it was so obvious that they were excited about what we have done and what we continue to do. In some areas they were grateful that a Head of State had visited them for the first time. Where we have completed the projects, I have openly admitted that some people started and we built on it. But my emphasis has not been on completion of other people’s projects but rather on projects that we started. However in certain cases where our contributions have been overwhelmingly noticeable, in commissioning it we gave credit where it was due”.

President Mills, who described his trip to the Ashanti Region as successful said he remains focused on his better Ghana Agenda.
