India’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced a minor cabinet reshuffle Wednesday, promising major changes in the week’s ahead.
Mr. Singh left senior cabinet posts such as the defense and foreign ministries intact.
But he moved Sports Minister M.S. Gill to the statistics ministry.
Gill oversaw last year’s disastrous Commonwealth Games in India. The event was marred by construction delays, poor sanitary conditions in the athletes’ villages, property theft, and allegations of corruption.
Mr. Singh also moved the heads of the oil and roads ministries to other jobs.
The French News Agency quoted Mr. Singh as saying he plans to make major cabinet changes during parliament’s budget session in March.
The government has been tarnished by a series of corruption scandals and voters are angry over rising food prices. voa
