Gang rapists jailed 30 years

A Kumasi Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey, has sentenced two friends to a total of 30 years imprisonment, for gang raping a teenage girl.

Isaac Yeboah, 20, and Kwadwo Owusu, 25, denied the charge and would each serve 15 years in prison. Police Chief Inspector Archibald Kwesi Fandoh told the court that the convicts are friends to the boyfriend of the victim, one Baba Ibrahim. They are all squatters at the Kumasi Race Course.

The prosecution said on July 30, the victim, aged 19, was invited by Yeboah to a drinking spot for a drink during a funeral. Police Chief Inspector Fandoh said Yeboah succeeded in drugging her, by mixing her drink with ‘valium”. Moments after the drink, the victim became drowsy and Yeboah took her to his room, where he was joined by Owusu, and together sexually assaulted her.

The prosecution said witnesses in the case, who could not stand the bad conduct of the two, forced opened the door and arrested them. The victim was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where she was treated and discharged. GNA
