The Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ampah Benin has pleaded with the nation’s lawyers to desist from defending notorious armed robbers to enable the Service rid the society of criminals and their activities.
According to him, the phenomenon where armed robbers get legal defence in the law courts does not augur well for the country’s fight against crime.
DCOP Ampah Benin made these remarks on the Citi Breakfast Show, on Thursday November 25, following a swoop on seventeen armed robbers on the dawn of Tuesday near Tepa-Abotoase in the Volta Region.
The seventeen suspected Fulani armed robbers were apprehended after robbing a Metro Mass Transit Bus traveling from Dambai to Accra.
Confirming the arrest, DCOP Ampah Benin noted that the arrest will bring some sanity in the business atmosphere of the country.
He also admonished Lawyers to refrain from defending armed robbers when arrested.
“The issue of lawyers coming to defend armed robbers when arrested, I think that this thing must stop, so that we remove them (armed robbers) from the society because they are very dangerous”.
