A group, Foot Soldiers for Unity and Victory (FOSUV) of the ruling NDC has condemned the actions of some foot soldiers of the party campaigning for the Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings to be elected as flagbearer to lead the party for the 2012 elections.
In a statement signed by its national coordinator, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, it stated that the “selfish” ambitions of Mrs. Rawlings has led to the deliberate undermining of the leadership whilst exposing the President Mills-led administration to public ridicule and contempt and destroying the forward match of the NDC. “FOSUV has observed that because of the personal ambitions of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, there has been a well orchestrated campaign to malign, insult and work against the forward match of the NDC”.
The group also condemned the printing and pasting of Mrs. Rawlings’ posters for the 2012 elections, describing the act as “cowardly”.
In an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, October 25, Mr Akandoh called on the former first lady to either confirm or deny that she was not actively seeking the presidency by constantly attacking and undermining the Atta Mills government.
He said Mrs Rawlings’ silence indicates that she has a hand in the deliberate attempt to usurp the powers of President Mills adding that her actions are killing the NDC.
The group also confirmed their confidence in and support for President Mills, stressing on the management of the economy and the reduction of inflation from 18.3% to less than 10%. “For now, it is the view of FOSUV that Professor Mills is doing well and must be supported by every well meaning Ghanaian more so NDC members. We are happy with the tremendous success in the management of the economy; reducing inflation from 18.3% to a single digit, paying $445 million to Ghana Commercial Bank to address the TOR debt, paying contractors over 160 million Ghana Cedis in arrears to contractors. Educational interventions such as the distribution of over 1 million free school uniforms, the distribution of over 45 million free exercise books and the 50% increment in the capitation grant”.

FOOT SOLDIERS FOR UNITY AND VICTORY (FOSUV)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
We the members of FOSUV of the NDC wish to put on record important concerns about the future of the NDC and Ghana.
First of all, we must stress that we are a national group with membership across every corner and hamlet of our country.
We organized ourselves to form this group in order to protect the image of the NDC and guard ourselves from selfish and destructive ambitions of certain elements within the NDC.
FOSUV has observed that because of the personal ambitions of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, there has been a well orchestrated campaign to malign, insult and work against the forward match of the NDC.
This personal ambition has led to the deliberate undermining of the leadership whilst exposing the President Mills led Government to public ridicule and contempt.
The question we are asking is that how long will the NDC allow the personal ambitions of one woman to destroy the NDC. How long will we allow her assigns and agents to destroy what we have all toiled to build?
How long are our leaders going to be silent and timid as Nana Konadu and her agents bring down the whole NDC and Government if they will not get what they want – power and control?
This selfish ambition which is perpetuated above the rules of the NDC and above every authority in the NDC is destroying discipline, unity and progress of the NDC.
It is this same ambition that has seen the printing and posting of Nana Konadu for 2012 posters all across the country even though it is cowardly masked as an act of foot soldiers.
FOSUV wishes to stress that if the NDC will be returned in any future election, it will depend on how well the current Prof. Mills led administration performs in Government. Any attempt to undermine the current NDC government with the intention of pursuing personal ambitions is only a laughably self-destructive enterprise.
For now, it is the view of FOSUV that Professor Mills is doing well and must be supported by every well meaning Ghanaian more so NDC members. We are happy with the tremendous success in the management of the economy; reducing inflation from 18.3% to a single digit, paying $445 million to Ghana Commercial Bank to address the TOR debt, paying contractors over 160 million Ghana Cedis in arrears to contractors. Educational interventions such as the distribution of over 1 million free school uniforms, the distribution of over 45 million free exercise books and the 50% increment in the capitation grant.
It is also refreshing to observe the humility and cleanliness of the President. The importance he attaches to transparency by subscribing to the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) and sending to Parliament for the first time in over 10 years the Right to Information Bill.
President Mill’s intervention in establishing the Disability Council for the first time in this country’s history and allowing the rule of law and due process to be the order of the day is also highly commendable.
His fight against corruption and lawlessness by prosecuting people who have questions to answer from the past regime also satisfies us. The strengthening of the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) to an Economic and Organized Crime Unit with more and far reaching powers cannot be glossed over.
FOSUV is also particularly curious about the support members of the NPP are giving Nana Konadu so far as her personal ambition is concerned. We are curious because it was this same party that preferred corruption charges against Nana Konadu and prosecuted her for more than 6 years until the NDC won power. These criminal charges have not been properly dealt with neither has she been acquitted and discharged. Is it a classic case of the opponents choosing the kind of goalkeeper their opponents should field before the match even begins? FOSUV is asking, is it because they will easily defeat her if she is made NDC Flagbearer? Is it because the NPP can easily resurrect all kinds of corruption allegations if she is the Flagbearer? If the NPP says it is time for a woman president, the NPP just had an opportunity to choose a Flagbearer, why didn’t they choose a woman? Our party should be thinking seriously about this. As they say, you should be extremely careful if the Greeks come bearing gifts.
Let us respect the laws of our party and allow Prof. Mills to deliver on his promises to the electorate. It is everybody’s guess, what would have been the fate of those engaged in this insurgency if it were them in power. We have subjected ourselves to public ridicule and disdain for far too long.
FOSUV will not rest until truth, unity and discipline is restored in the NDC. We have had enough of the raving and ranting including the use of lies and acrimony masquerading as principles of the revolution all in the pursuit of selfish ambitions.
