The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as ‘Sir John’ has strongly criticized the grade B rating given President Mills by the Africa Watch Magazine for his performance in foreign policy.
According to Sir John, President Mills has been a total failure in terms of foreign policy and would have been more content if the President was rated A for doing nothing.
Africa Watch Magazine has released a survey on the performance of Ghanaian politicians including President John Atta Mills.
President Mills was graded separately in five different policy areas; Foreign Policy- B, Economic Development- C+, Social Interventions- C-, Political Developments- B, and National Security B-.
Twenty four members of Ghana’s legislature were deemed as complete failures and graded F. Some of them include MP for Builsa North, Hon Timothy Attaboadey, MP for Asante Akim North, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, MP for Upper Denkyira East, Nana Amoakoh, MP for Keta, Richard Lassey Agbenyefia among others.
Speaking in an interview with Citi News, on Tuesday October 19, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie said President Mills’ grade is a complete contradiction as per his performance since assuming office some eighteen months ago.
He described Ghana’s foreign policy as “bogus and shameless” adding that the rating would only make the President feel good in office.
“In this country, apart from Professor Mills who believes in Index hype nobody else believes in that, the reason being that today if you go out and ask who Ghana’s Foreign Minister is, very few people will be able to tell you. It shows that our President is sleeping, our Foreign Policy is bogus and shameless and so for the President to be awarded a B for that symbolizes the fact that he is a ‘do-nothing’ President”.
“I would have even wished if he had A for doing nothing…the whole thing is a sham, it is intended to soar the image of the NDC administration that has been going down the drain but if that is their plan then the whole thing has backfired. President Mills is being given an image he does not deserve”.
Meanwhile, Deputy Tourism Minister, Kobby Acheampong has attacked Sir John in a vitriolic manner for his outburst on President Mills.
Mr. Kobby Acheampong described the NPP General Secretary as an “ignoramus,” admonishing him “to broaden his horizon” in order to make relevant contributions to national discourse.
The Tourism Minister said the NPP General Secretary’s long stay in Kumasi has affected his way of thinking and his commentary on relevant national issues. Sir John, he said, has completely misfired in describing President Mills as a failure in Foreign Policy.
Kobby Acheampong also rubbished the ratings of the Africa Watch Magazine on Ghana’s politicians which has stirred a lot of controversy.
He urged publishers of the notorious Magazine to come out with a different publication giving better explanation on the criteria used in grading Ghana’s politicians.
