Michael Essien is set to make his return to the senior national team the Black Stars.
The Chelsea and Ghanaian midfielder Essien, sustained an injury during the African Nations Cup which forced him out of the 2010 World Cup.
After partially recovering from his injuries, Essien announced he was taking a brake from the Stars to focus on his duties at English Premier side Chelsea. Many Ghanaians at that time expressed outrage over Essien’s decision to go into temporary international duty retirement, some accusing him of betraying Ghana and faking his injuries.
But Essien popularly known as The Bison due to his powerful physical presence on the pitch has now revealed his absence from the Stars came as a result of an agreement between him and then Ghana coach Rajevic.
Essien said he spoke with Rajevic and the coach agreed to give him time off to get his fitness back and was hoping to rejoin a Rajevic led Ghana but now says it’s unfortunate that the Serbian left before his return.
The Bison also said he now feels better and feel he has improved as a player, he said he has seen a tremendous improvement in his passing and is still working on his goal scoring.
