Ghana’s movie industry is about to witness the first ever Movie Awards Ghana (MAG Awards) very soon. The organization of the award ceremony has been in the pipeline for so long, but indications are that the stage is now set to roll.
The event, promised to be an annual one, is aimed at rewarding excellence in the various areas in the movie industry.
Tomorrow Thursday, September 30, will mark the official launch of the awards ceremony at the Alisa Hotel, Ridge Accra from 10:30 am.
The launching will announce the actual date for the award ceremony, its itinerary, nomination rules, voting and other issues pertaining to organizing a flawless award ceremony.
The ceremony is anticipated to attract quite a number of leading stakeholders in the movie industry as well as the inky fraternity. Deputy Minister of Information Hon. James Agyenim Boateng will also grace the ceremony as guest of honour.
Ghana’s movie industry has for the past three years not seen any official award honouring stakeholders. The last was the one organized by Ghana’s Actor Guide in 2007. Since then, any attempt to organize any such award hasn’t been fruitful, prompting companies from outside the country to come over to honour local movie stakeholders. MAG is expected to break the myth and take the movie industry’s award organization to a different level.
